The subject of the Sarıkamış Operation Memorial Area is
Sarıkamış, which the army wanted so badly that it perished for its sake.
Sarıkamış is more than a city in the memory of the Turkish people, it is an
expression of longing for independence and victory and love of homeland.
The social events that affected them deeply and the giant
inscriptions and tombstones left by the Turks for their deceased elders
maintain their importance in Turkish History even today. This tombstone
tradition belongs to the Turks as well as to the other peoples living in
Anatolia, therefore to Anatolia. Because of these tombstones, Anatolia is
described as an open-air sculpture museum in some sources. Sarıkamış monuments
come to life as giant tombstones erected to thousands of martyrs at the gates
of Anatolia.
